Preservation Board to Consider San Luis Demolition June 22nd
YOU can help determine the future of the Central West End!
Step 1: Plan to attend the St. Louis Preservation Board meeting 4:00 P.M. Monday, June 22nd, 1015 Locust Street, Suite 1200. Sign up to speak to the board. Tell them why another surface parking lot is the last thing the Central West End needs. Here is the board agenda for the meeting.
Step 2: Write the incoming Archbishop, Robert J. Carlson: 4445 Lindell Boulevard, St. Louis, MO, 63108. He will be installed this Wednesday, June 10th. Ask him to re-consider the decision to demolish the San Luis. Remind him that his residence is catty corner to the proposed parking lot. Please copy Alderman Lyda Krewson: City Hall, Room 230, 1200 Market Street, St. Louis, MO, 63103 or email Lyda.
What an embarrassing plan for such a prominent corner. While the Archdiocese is its own government, I hope that Alderwoman Lyda Krewson stands strong for good urban design.
ReplyDeleteI too am embarrassed, that in this day and age, we are still tearing down buildings for parking lots. I wish our leaders would grow some balls and stand up for what's right. I'm so sick of the attitude, "There's nothing we can do about it." You're right-- when you refuse to do anything about it, you can't do anything about it. Stand up, weaklings!
ReplyDeleteI'm embarrassed that anyone in the CWE would want to save this eyesore. The sooner it's down, the better!
ReplyDeleteOh! I just saw that you were an architect. One of the things that struck me in the cwe— and I realize I’m changing the conversation, I’m sorry- with the new buildings were the balconies that are up to the 12th floor. These apartments have a sliding glass door to balconies that are over 100 feet high and have flimsy see-through railings. I don’t need to tell you that rambunctious children who can’t be controlled will fall to their death if they get hold of that door as will anyone who is startled or for any other reason missteps. I mean the idea of someone barbecuing at 120 feet is terrifying – I wonder whose idea that was. I came here originally to see the balconies Eppy all the Bel Air Hotel where we used to spend 4 July but they are much better protected and surrounded by walls.
