(that reminder could be because i just saw The Pruitt-Igoe Myth. :P highly recommended!!)between2poleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11203406898549088156noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7006035116970579216.post-65199562426105965252011-06-06T11:56:47.722-05:002011-06-06T11:56:47.722-05:00this is absolutely absurd. this intersection is go...this is absolutely absurd. this intersection is going to be decimated: HUGE surface lots on either side of the street and the loss of a wonderful building that is nowhere near demo condition. i'm rapidly losing hope for saint louis. every trip i take to DC (or any other functional city for that matter) reinforces that sense of hopelessness. our politicians are either corrupt or ineffective, the majority of our business leaders don't give two f*cks about the city, and speculation runs rampant.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7006035116970579216.post-75469994447837920462011-06-06T10:30:28.054-05:002011-06-06T10:30:28.054-05:00CORTEX is a joke. The other similar initiatives I've read about across the country have capitalization numbers in the BilllionsUSD range. CORTEX is now obviously out of money, and got waaaaay ahead of themselves, and now the City--along with the alderman, naturally--have given their imprimatur to this demo, rather than require the current ownership to repair their property. Same ol', same ol' in the Lou. More favors for those who have the connections to pull the puppet strings. Maybe I'm wrong, but connecting the dots in this town is as easy as painting-by-numbers: Fill in the blanks, and pretty soon you have a picture full of clowns.samizdatnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7006035116970579216.post-17050978200380990372011-06-06T08:58:21.988-05:002011-06-06T08:58:21.988-05:00Unreal! Most infuriating is that the site will likely remain vacant for years, and if/when something is built, I can't imagine it will match the quality and massing of the existing building.

I vividly recall that a truck crashed into this building years ago, which prompted the rebuilding of the lower section of the building fronting Forest Park Parkway. At the time, the damage was quite extensive, and I was so relieved to see the building being meticulously repaired. Alas, it was all for naught.STLgasmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13637030307305896833noreply@blogger.com
